Wed, 18 October 2006 ![]() WOF of the WEEK this stands for Waste of Film I care about you and I would hate for you to waste your precious time on this film directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game). The film is about a transvestite Patrick "kitten" Braden, played by Cillian Murphy, who travels to London to search for his mother who abandoned him at birth. Trouble seems to find Patrick wherever she goes, including getting mixed up with the IRA. The movie is narrated by the lead character and each chapter of her life begins with a caption which gets old real fast. I really wanted to like this film but honestly there were too many sub-plots and I felt as if the movie would never end. There is some witty dialogue and fun costuming choices (70's scene). The soundtrack is amazing, but alas the film failed to keep my interest and I regret renting it. The film also stars Liam Neeson and is based on the novel by Patrick McCabe. ...Don't say I didn't warn you xoxo, Sallie Category: general -- posted at: 7:30 PM Comments[0] |

Mon, 2 October 2006 Don't know what to rent this week and need a suggestion??? Sallie says "Lolita" Director Stanley Kubrick's 1962 film version of Vladimir Nabokov's novel scandalized audiences -- and still shocks today. James Mason gives an amazing performance as Humbert. Humbert is uncontrollably attracted to jailbait teen Lolita, played by Sue Lyon. Mason knows no good can come of his pursuit, but he continues despite the overwhelming reasons to stop. Peter Sellers costars as Mason's nemesis, Clare Quilty. Sharita says "Inside Man" Dispatched to a crime scene where a bank robbery is in progress, police detective Keith Frazier (Denzel Washington) hopes to apprehend the cunning thief (Clive Owen) so he can make his case for a promotion. But when a savvy negotiator (Jodie Foster) with questionable motives arrives on the scene, an already unstable situation threatens to implode. Spike Lee directs this tense action-drama co-starring Willem Dafoe and Christopher Plummer. Category: general -- posted at: 1:40 PM Comments[0] |
